Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important representative stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
